15. Jarrett Patterson (Center)

Best Ranking: 12

Worst Ranking: 20

Jarrett Patterson was a four-star prospect out of Mission Viejo, California. He was the highest-ranked offensive lineman in Notre Dame’s 2018 recruiting class.

Like most talented offensive linemen, Patterson played left tackle in high school. During his first season in South Bend, that is where he was listed on the depth chart. He did not stay there for long, though.

Following the departures of Sam Mustipher and Trevor Ruhland, the Irish had a vacancy at the center position heading into the 2019 season. Patterson was given the opportunity to move to center and start for Notre Dame as a redshirt freshman. He made the most of that opportunity.

In 2019, Patterson started all 13 games for the Irish. It is rare to see a redshirt freshman start on the offensive line for Notre Dame. To see Patterson do it – and do it well – was certainly impressive.

Pro Football Focus gave Patterson an offensive grade of 74.2 for the season, which ranked in the top 20 of all centers in the country.

After an auspicious start to his college career, I think Patterson’s ceiling may be slightly higher than Sam Mustipher, who was a multi-year starter for Notre Dame and signed with the Bears as an Undrafted Free Agent.
