Notre Dame Football: The Top 5 – Ranking 2020’s Most Impactful Players
By Andrew Hall
4. Liam Eichenberg
Best Ranking: No. 3
Worst Ranking: No. 11
Eichenberg hopes to build on a solid foundation and propel himself into the first-round of the NFL Draft. He is the most talented of five extremely experienced Notre Dame starting Offensive Linemen. According to several mock drafts, Eichenberg may hear his name called in the first-round of next year’s draft.
This group, and Eichenberg, will not be judged on whether they run for 300 yards against South Florida. They will not be judged on whether or not they average over 250 rushing yards per contest. The Offensive Line’s success will be measured on how well they play against Clemson – specifically, running the ball effectively so the Irish offense is not one dimensional.
Eichenberg is at the center of this effort. Last year, he collected too many false start and unnecessary personal foul penalties. Eichenberg essentially halted Notre Dame’s first drive against Georgia with a late hit after the whistle was blown. He needs to become a technician who can utilize his 6’6″ 302 lbs. frame to his advantage. Eichenberg faces an early test against Duke’s talented Defensive Ends. This should demonstrate to fans and coaches what type of season the Left Tackle from Cleveland, Ohio will have in 2020.
