Notre Dame Football vs. Clemson Review: Studs and Duds
The Notre Dame football team needed more than three incredible performances to end Clemson’s 39-game regular season winning streak, but here are three of the biggest.
Ian Book
The graduate student quarterback from El Dorado Hills, California takes a lot of grief from Notre Dame football fans, but he led the team to victory on Saturday night. He completed 22-of-39 for 310 yards and a touchdown, and he also added 67 yards on the ground.
The play of the night for Book (among many) was a 53-yard completion to senior wide receiver Avery Davis. Book avoid the rush and threw a strike down field to Davis to put the Irish in position to tie the game.
Later, Book and Davis would again connect for the game tying score.
Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah
Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah made the defensive play of the game when the blitzed off the edged and forced all-American running back Travis Etienne into dropping the pitch. 23-yards later, the future first round pick found himself in the end zone.
He finished the game with nine tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a touchdown. His stats and performance were truly elite.
Kyren Williams
The running back from St. Louis, Missouri set the tone with a 65-yard touchdown on the Notre Dame’s first drive. He finished the contest with 140 rushing yards and three touchdowns. But, his biggest contribution came on the aforementioned 53-yard Book to Davis completion.
Williams, who blocked well all game, picked up a blitzing Baylon Spector that allowed Book to sidestep and deliver a critical pass to Davis late in the 4th quarter.
