Notre Dame MBB: Irish to be tested early, often in 2020-21 season
By Brad Weiss
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish Men’s Basketball Team will be tested early on, playing multiple ranked teams before the calendar switches to January.
Sure, John Mooney is gone, taking his talents to Australia, but that does not mean the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are not going to compete in the ACC this season. Guys like Juwan Durham and Nate Laszewski will step up, and the backcourt of Prentiss Hubb and Cormac Ryan will look to become one of the best in the conference.
In order for Notre Dame to improve on a 20-12 2019-2020 college basketball season, they will have to do a better job against the elite teams on their schedule. They struggled mightily in that department last season, but head coach Mike Brey is not taking the foot off the pedal, and this season, their early season slate is as tough as it gets.
With all of the uncertainty revolving around the 2020-21 college basketball season, Brey is taking a one-day-at-a-time approach. That is the smart thing to do, as you never know when one of your players may come down with the virus, or will have been in close contact with someone who currently has it.
All he can do as the coach is keep this team afloat no matter what is thrown at him, and that includes the early part of their season. The slate is tough, and we will know just how good this team is before New Years Day, 2021.
