Notre Dame Football at Boston College Eagles: 3 Biggest Surprises

Notre Dame covered a double-digit spread in a trap game.

Anyone who is both an Irish fan and a gambler knows that you should never, and I mean never, bet on Notre Dame to cover a double-digit spread. I have not gone back and fact-checked this, but I am almost certain that if you had bet against Notre Dame in all games where they were double-digit favorites, you would probably be a multi-millionaire.

This was not an ordinary game either. It was a rivalry game on the road one week after an emotional win over the top-ranked team in the country. It was also the “Red Bandana” game for Boston College this season. Betting on the Eagles to cover the spread in this game seemed like a virtual lock.

However, Ian Book and the Irish offense did their best Lee Corso impersonation and said, “Not so fast!” Despite turning the ball over three times, Notre Dame’s offense was able to put up 45 points.

The Irish offense was able to move the ball with ease, and they controlled long stretches of this game. I may always be hesitant to bet on Notre Dame as a double-digit favorite, but this Irish team is certainly beginning to sway me.
