Notre Dame Football: Ian Book has a chance at immortality in South Bend

Finishing on the highest of notes

The 2020 college football season has been a strange one, as teams have had games cancelled due to the pandemic, and some programs have completely fallen off the map. For Notre Dame, they joined the ACC for the 2020 campaign, and this season, the top two teams will qualify for the conference title game, not the best team in each division.

The Irish are sitting at 8-0, Book has led this team to 14 straight victories, and they are the driver’s seat in terms of clinching a spot in the conference title game. That would likely mean a rematch against the Clemson Tigers, but no matter how that game plays out, the Irish will likely punch their ticket to the College Football Playoff.

From there, they have the talent to compete with any team, including the likes of Clemson, Alabama, and Ohio State. If the Irish want to really turn the corner as a program, Book and his teammates need to finish the job, and that means winning their final three regular season games, making the ACC title game, and making a serious run in the CFP.

Notre Dame is the gold standard in terms of football programs, and while Book has already carved his place out in Irish history, leading this team to a national title would make him an immortal. He would have the stats, the ring, and the signature moments, everything you need to be one of the best to ever do it.
