Wide Receivers/Tight Ends
Where has Ben Skowronenk going over the head of corners for touchdowns been? Ok. Sure. Literally speaking, Skowronek has been dealing with a bad hamstring injury, but there’s other receivers on the roster who have been steadily improving. look at Avery Davis flashing his speed and athleticism on his way to averaging 35 yards per completion.
The best thing the wide receivers did was to finally make themselves a threat in the redzone. They not only got open with less space than is normal, but they were able to go up and use their size and strength to win one on one battles for scores. The Irish have been missing this all season long, and they will need it down the home stretch.
Along with Skowronek and Davis, Javon McKinley had a solid game, with five catches for 48 yards. Lawrence Keys also managed two catches for 26 yards. Skowronek did fumble the ball after a long catch.
It was a quiet game for the tight ends. The only catch belonged to Michael Mayer, and went for 12 yards. What this unit lacked in the passing game it brought in the running game, with strong blocking. Tommy Tremble was particularly strong in the Notre Dame run blocking schemes, but not tight end struggled to block Boston College.
At the end of the day it was the Ben Skowronek show on offense for Notre Dame. His three touchdown performance was dominant, and exactly what the Irish have lacked at receiver all
