Notre Dame Football: Offensive lineman Caleb Johnson flips to Irish

What will Caleb Johnson bring to South Bend?

The 6’7 295-pound tackle is definitely going to bring size and power. He has an outstanding frame and will only build on it once he gets with Matt Balis in the weight room. His strong suit seems to be run blocking, with solid flexibility and a very strong lower body.

Johnson definitely have some time to gain experience in pass protection and work on his technique a bit, but he’s a very solid prospect coming in. At the end of the day, having a freshman of that size and frame is a big benefit because you can’t give that or teach it.

He’ll get to learn from some really good players ahead of him and will definitely be able to tune up his technique with offensive line coach Jeff Quinn running the show. This is a great pickup later in the process for Quinn and Rees, and one that could flourish once in the system for a few years.

With Johnson’s commitment, the Irish now have 23 pledges ,with eleven offensively, one specialist and eleven on the defensive side. Caleb Johnson will be joining offensive lineman Blake Fisher, Rocco Spindler, Joe Alt, and Pat Coogan to easily make this one of the best lineman classes in the country.

There’s been a lot of doubters about Jeff Quinn from the day Brian Kelly hired him but there’s one thing that can’t be questions, he’s a damn good recruiter. What a group it is coming to South Bend next year.
