The Notre Dame Men’s Basketball program got a huge commitment on Friday, landing local star Blake Wesley for their incoming class.

On Friday, the Notre Dame Men’s Basketball program got a commitment from a local star from Riley (IN) High School, as Blake Wesley will be joining the Fighting Irish. Wesley is a 6-foot-5 guard who is a four-star recruit by Rivals, is a top-100 player in the country, and

Wesley is the second South Bend star to join the Irish program, as South Bend St. Joseph guard J.R. Konieczny committed to Notre Dame last week. This is shaping up to be a tremendous recruiting class for head coach Mike Brey, and Wesley and Konieczny already have a connection, as they have been friends since middle school per the school’s website.

Notre Dame’s official twitter account announced the commitment on Friday:

Wesley can flat out score

Last season, Wesley averaged 26 points per game for Riley, while being named honorable mention All-State. He was also rated the No. 3 player in the state of Indiana, and comes from a basketball family, as his father, Derrick played for Ball State, and was a two-time Most Valuable Player for the school.

Wesley is the first public school player to sign with Notre Dame since 1985, and will be instant offense for Brey immediately. Nathan Errbach from Irish Breakdown stated that “Wesley is a guy who has a quick first step, is an elite shooter, and distributes the ball well.”

The 180-pound swing-man had more than 15 offers from huge programs, including Indiana, Ohio State, and Texas to name a few, but playing close to home had to be a priority.

The Notre Dame Women’s Basketball team brought in a top-5 recruiting class in the country, and the Men’s program has done a great job trying to keep pace with them this recruiting season. Local kids like Wesley and Konieczny are going to be fan favorites right away, as they look to finally go back to being a regular in the NCAA tournament.
