Notre Dame Football: Ian Book disrespected in PFF’s quarterback rankings

Who is ranked above Book?

Let us take a look at some of these players ranked ahead of Ian Book.

One example is Grant Gunnell from Arizona. He’s a promising young quarterback, but he has only played one game this season. His one game was not all that impressive either. The author mentions that PFF gave Gunnell the lowest single-game grade of his career. However, the author is fine with evaluating him based on his play last season.

Another example is Kyle Vantrease of Buffalo. Vantrease, a former punter, has played in three games this season – a grueling stretch against Northern Illinois, Miami Ohio, and Bowling Green. Vantrease played fine in those three games, but he has not shown anything that would warrant him being ranked ahead of Ian Book.

One last example is Jayden de Laura of Washington State. The Cougars have played two games this season. Since de Laura is a first-time starter, these are the only two games he has played. So let us compare those two games to Ian Book’s last two games.

Ian Book in the last two games: completion percentage of 64 percent, 593 passing yards, four passing touchdowns, 152 rushing yards, and a rushing touchdown.

Jayden de Laura in the last two games: completion percentage of 60 percent, 548 passing yards, four passing touchdowns, 54 rushing yards, and a rushing touchdown.

Can you guess which quarterback PFF ranked five spots ahead of the other?

I am somewhat convinced that Ian Book was ranked where he was purely to generate clicks and debate. Which, is exactly what it has done so far. As a fellow blogger, I cannot knock the hustle of someone trying to get clicks. Next time, though, put some damn respect on Ian Book’s name.
