Notre Dame football: 4 best potential College Football Playoff matchups

Northwestern Wildcats

Here’s a surprise. The Northwestern Wildcats have a legitimate chance to make the College Football Playoff. As it stands now, they’re unbeaten, with an excellent win over Wisconsin. They have three regular season games remaining on the schedule and they will be favored to win all of them. From there, all they have to do is upset Ohio State, which Indiana at least left a blueprint for.

However, if Northwestern makes it to the Playoff they’ll be overmatched in terms of talent by every other team who makes the Playoff, including Notre Dame. The Wildcats are currently benefitting from a weak schedule, and one good win over Wisconsin at home.

Their defense is excellent, but the Wildcats offense is far from threatening. They’re not the embarrassment that they were last season, but that really just means they’re competent on offense. However, if they had to meet Notre Dame they’d be overmatched, particularly in the trenches, where they can blow the Wildcats off the ball and win the game.

Granted, Northwestern will be outmatched by any team to make the College Football Playoff, but especially in how Notre Dame is built as a team.
