Notre Dame football: 4 best potential College Football Playoff matchups

Florida Gators

Right now, the Florida Gators are campaigning to get their quarterback Kyle Trask to win the Heisman Trophy. That’s with good reason. He’s been electrifying all season long, leading the Gators to wins in every game except a close loss at Texas A&M. A lot of his success is related to the talent around him, as Kyle Pitts is the best tight end in the country and Kadarious Toney may as well be a carbon copy of Percy Harvin.

So, how do the Irish matchup with Florida?

The Gators don’t play particularly strong defense, and while they’ve improved as the season goes on, Notre Dame is more than equipped to handle their scheme. A big part of their scheme is blitzing, much like Clemson. Unlike Clemson, their blitzes are often delayed and don’t get to the quarterback in time. This leaves wide receivers in softer coverage open to gain chunk plays on Florida.

Notre Dame is perfectly equipped to handle this type of defense. Their offensive line is experienced and elite. Kyren Williams has proven to be dominant in his pass blocking. Ian Book should have all day to attack the Florida secondary, giving the Irish a great opportunity if matched up against Florida.
