Notre Dame football at North Carolina Tar Heels: 3 players to watch

Zeke Correll and Chazz Surratt

Zeke Correll, C, Notre Dame

Zeke Correll steps in and replaces the injured Jarrett Patterson. As a recruit, Correll ranked as the 95th best recruit and third center in the 2019 class. He possesses the talent to become an elite center at the college level, but he lacks the experience that Patterson.

If Correll, along with Josh Lugg, can adjust, the Irish offense will not miss a beat against the Tar Heels. If they cannot, the Notre Dame football team might be on upset alert.

Chazz Surratt, LB, North Carolina

When Notre Dame last played the Tar Heels, Chazz Surratt played quarterback. He threw for 179 yards on 19-of-42 passing. It was clear that Surratt was not going to play quarterback at an elite level in the ACC.

However, when Mack Brown took over as North Carolina’s head coach, Surratt approached the staff with an idea of changing to linebacker. Surratt started 11 games at linebacker; eventually making 1st team All-ACC. He tallied 115 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, and 10 quarterback hurries.

Surratt will challenge Correll and Lugg on passing downs. The Tar Heels may use him to bring pressure in the middle of the Notre Dame offensive line. If Notre Dame can pick up these blitzes, big plays await.
