Running Backs
What can you say about Kyren Williams that we haven’t been saying a hundred times already? He’s an amazing, all-around running back. Whether it is knowing which blitzer to pick up, or when to slip out and present himself as a receiving option Williams’ understanding of the running back position is elite.
That’s before you consider he gets 5.6 yards per carry on the season, with a 5.4 average against North Carolina.
As always, Williams brought his all around consistent play to Chapel Hill, and Notre Dame relied on him to break the will off North Carolina. It worked, and he kept the ball moving up and down the field on an increasingly tired Tar Heels defense.
For all of Williams’s success, he was the only one who had much success. Typically, Williams gets about 50% of touches, while C’Bo Flemister and Chris Tyree split the other 50%. Tyree had two carries and Flemister didn’t see the field.
Now, there were reports that Flemister wasn’t 100% healthy, but that’s still a distinct lack of production after Williams.
Williams dominated touches out of the backfield, gaining 124 yards on 23 carries. That would be good for two touchdowns. The only other running back to carry the ball was Chris Tyree, who had two carries for 16 yards. Williams also had four catches for 20 yards and a touchdown.
