With the schedule changes within the conference, Notre Dame football saw their game against Wake Forest canceled, assuring their spot in the ACC title game.

The Notre Dame football clinched their spot in the ACC title game on Tuesday, and they literally had to do nothing to do so. With the conference canceling their matchup against Wake Forest on December 12, the Irish are guaranteed a spot in the title game due to their record, and the fact that they hold all the tiebreakers.

It has been an outstanding season for Ian Book and the Irish, who have started the year out at 9-0, and have had some incredible victories along the way. There was the win against No. 1 Clemson in overtime, a strong victory against Boston College on the road, and then last weekend when they shut down North Carolina and their high-powered offense.

Notre Dame will have one more shot to continue to impress the College Football Playoff voters before the ACC title game, and there is a real possibility two ACC teams could make the CFP this season.

Last game at home against Syracuse

Before all of that, the Irish will have to beat the one-win Syracuse Orange, a game they should easily come out on top in. Notre Dame is a much better team than Syracuse, and the hope is that they not only come away with a blowout victory but also that they stay healthy for the hopefully three games after that matchup.

The Irish will likely take on the Clemson Tigers in the ACC title game, which will be a rematch of the instant classic from a few weeks ago. Notre Dame has the firepower on both sides of the ball to make a serious run at a national title game, and will now have an extra week to prepare for Trevor Lawrence and company.

The Miami Hurricanes could leapfrog the Tigers, but Clemson would have to lose this weekend, and Miami would have to win out. That seems like a very unlikely scenario, but as we have seen in this crazy 2020 college football season, anything can happen at this point.
