Notre Dame football: New faces having a huge impact in 2020
Nick McCloud, Cornerback
Similar to the problems Clarence Lewis has helped to alleviate, North Carolina State grad-transfer Nick McCloud has done the same and has been an extremely vital asset to this year’s Notre Dame defense.
Outside of his previous experience playing most of the ACC schools the Irish have faced in 2020, McCloud has proven to be an exceptional man-to-man cornerback and one of the most consistent secondary players on the team this season.
McCloud has recorded a pass breakup in 6 of Notre Dame’s 9 games and leads the team with 8 passes defended. He’s also tallied 23 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 2 fumbles recovered, and an interception vs Pittsburgh.
The experience playing at this level clearly makes McCloud a key part of this year’s defense. He is reliable and brings a leadership quality that was missing outside of Shaun Crawford.
His ability to play the shutdown corner role has opened up the play of the rest of the secondary and the defense has greatly benefited from it.
