Notre Dame football star Ian Book is one win away from the school record for wins, and he can clinch his spot atop the list with a win at home.

Notre Dame football quarterback Ian Book is on the footstep of history, as he is one win away from being the winningest quarterback in the history of the program. On Saturday, he will get a chance to set that record against the Syracuse Orange, one of the worst teams in the country, and one they should have no trouble with inside Notre Dame Stadium.

It has been an incredible final season with the Irish for Book, as he has led the team to a 9-0 record, a spot in the ACC title game, and a legitimate shot at winning a national title. This Notre Dame team has playmakers on both sides of the ball, and in Book, they have that veteran quarterback you need in the playoffs.

He will have his chance to make history on Saturday, winning his 30th game as the starting quarterback for the Irish, who have had no shortage of legendary quarterbacks in the history of the program.

29-3 heading into Saturday

One thing that Book has done since taking over as the starter in South Bend is win, as he has only three losses to his record through last week. He has found ways to win with his arm and his leg, and while he had the reputation of not being able to win the big one heading into this season, he certainly proved he could put the team on his back in the Irish’s stunning victory over No. 1 Clemson.

That signature win catapulted Book in the eyes of a lot of fans of the program, and I believe gave him even more confidence. His teammates know that they are never out of it when Book is under center, and they can help him reach immortality with a win over the lowly-Syracuse Orange at home on Saturday.

With the win on Saturday, Book passes Tom Clements, Ron Powlus, and Brady Quinn, all of who have won 29 games for the Irish.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Book could actually return to the Irish next season, as this year will not count against any player’s eligibility. However, he has already accepted his invitation for the Senior Bowl, so Saturday is most likely the last time fans will see him play inside Notre Dame Stadium, and it could be a record-setting event.
