Notre Dame football: Irish start sloppy, then dominate Orange for tenth win
Looking Ahead
The Irish had already locked up a spot in the ACC title game going into the Syracuse game, as the conference decided to cancel their final game on the road against Wake Forest. Now, they have to sit and wait to see who they will play in the title game, though the likelihood is that there will be a rematch against the Clemson Tigers.
Remember, the Irish joined the ACC due to the pandemic, and they ran through their schedule, finishing up with a perfect 10-0 record. Along the way, they knocked off No. 1 Clemson, went on the road and beat good teams in Boston College and North Carolina, and then did exactly what they needed to do by pummeling the Orange on Saturday.
Win or lose in the ACC title game, the Irish should be one of the four teams in this year’s College Football Playoff, but they do not want to leave anything to chance. Clemson was without Trevor Lawrence the first time around, so you can expect that one to be an instant classic, much like the game a month ago.
It has been a magical year for Brian Kelly’s squad and looking at their roster on both sides of the ball, nobody wants to play this team right now. This is an Irish team that can beat you in so many ways, and now have the added advantage of getting a week off before ramping up to win their first ACC title.
