Notre Dame football: 2020 NFL rookies struggling outside of Chase Claypool
Looking at the rest of the 2020 class
Over the next four rounds, the Irish program produced a selection in each round, with Julian Okwara being the next off the board in the third round. Expected to come in and help out along a young and developing Detroit Lions defense, Okwara joined his brother and former Notre Dame football player Romeo in the Motor City and has appeared in four games.
Here is a list of the 2020 NFL Draft picks after the second round
- Julian Okwara, 3rd Round, Detroit Lions
- Tony Pride Jr., 4th Round, Carolina Panthers
- Khalid Kareem, 5th Round, Cincinnati Bengals
- Alohi Gilman, 6th Round, Los Angeles Chargers
Okwara has struggled to stay healthy as a rookie, as he was placed on injured reserve back in October with a leg injury. Tony Pride Jr., a cornerback for the Carolina Panthers, has appeared in 12 games, while making six starts, and figures to play a big role for head coach Matt Rhule moving forward in Carolina.
Khalid Kareem and Alohi Gilman were late-round picks in the 2020 draft, and they have both played in more than ten games this season. Neither has turned into a starter yet, but they are all getting good experience, which will be crucial next season.
A few other members of the 2019 Notre Dame football team signed as undrafted free agents last April, but none of them have made their mark at the NFL yet as well. Asmar Bilal was recently activated from IR by the Chargers, and he has played in some games this year, but for the most part, the group as a whole will be looking to make more of an impact in Year 2.
