Notre Dame Men’s Basketball: Irish have the talent to beat Kentucky

Looking Back

This is a matchup that dates back nearly 90 years ago, and for a while there, it looked like it would be absolutely owned by the Wildcats. In fact, heading into the last four matchups between these two schools, Kentucky had won ten straight games, and overall, they hold a huge lead in terms of wins against the Irish.

However, that has not been the case as of late, as the two programs have split the last two matchups, with Kentucky winning the last time out. That, of course, was the aforementioned Midwest Region game, a game that saw Andrew Harrison sink two free throws late to push the Wildcats to their 38th win of the season.

Brey led the Irish to two straight NCAA tournaments following that crushing loss to Kentucky, but after making the NIT two years ago, and not making the tournament last season, he and Notre Dame have something to prove. With a win on Saturday, they not only can prove they can beat the Blue Blood programs but that they are continuing to trend in the right direction.
