Notre Dame Football: 2020 Offensive regular season awards

“Mr. Reliable” Award

For the majority of the year, Notre Dame’s offense has been unreliable, so selecting a “Mr. Reliable” is extremely difficult. However, throughout the season, Kyren Williams has been reliable rushing, catching, and blocking for the Irish offense. He is the only player who played well from start to finish.

From the first snap against the Blue Devils, Williams was tremendous in all phases of offensive football.

Against Duke, he totaled 205 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns, starting a season that would see him finish the regular season 1279 yards from scrimmage and 13 total touchdowns. He became the first Notre Dame running back to eclipse the 1000-yard mark since Josh Adams in 2017.

Several times, when the Irish would get the ball with a lead late in the game, Williams finished off the opposition with determined and bruising runs. His energy brings an incalculable value to an offense that needed a boost of confidence at many times throughout the season.

As evidenced by his effort against Clemson, Williams is reliable in every facet of the game. He rushed for 140 yards and three touchdowns against the Tigers, and more importantly, his blitz pickups were textbook. Williams’ block on a blitzing linebacker allowed Book to step through and complete a pass to a streaking Avery Davis. This game summarized why he deserved to be Mr. Reliable.
