Notre Dame football is in the ACC Championship

It almost feels dirty to say it out loud, but the fact of the matter is the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are playing and competing for an ACC Championship in their first year as members of a conference. Even though the stay in the ACC might be brief, all eyes were on the Irish this year, whether people want to admit it or not.

People always love to see Notre Dame fail, which is why it is incredibly frustrating watching them not only roll through a conference-only schedule, but perhaps be the champions of said conference while making the CFP.

The Irish have taken every obstacle in stride this year, a year that would have been the easiest to shut down, check out, and blame on COVID-19. Instead, they buckled down, weathered the early storm of offensive inconsistencies, and slowly got better as the season wore on.

Brian Kelly and his staff deserve a ton of credit for where the Irish are at right now. Especially considering where teams like Minnesota, Penn State, Michigan, and LSU, who all have solid, veteran coaches, are having some of their worst seasons in recent memory. It’s a testament to Notre Dame’s ability to stay focused, develop their players, and to the culture, they have established.

Winning is no longer the standard, it’s winning in the fashion that they are capable of.

Notching another perfect regular season is impressive enough in any year, but considering the circumstances, doing that as members of the ACC and giving themselves a chance to earn the first conference championship in program history is truly incredible. So, when Saturday rolls around, appreciate what this team has accomplished this season and soak in what will more than likely be the first and last conference championship game in Notre Dame football history.
