Notre Dame football: ACC Championship Offensive Grades
Notre Dame football ACC title game grades: Wide Receivers/Tight Ends
What a disaster for the wide receivers against a tough Clemson defense on Saturday, as they struggled mightily throughout. Things started decently, with Notre Dame utilizing a short passing game to get the ball to receivers like Ben Skowronek.
That worked fine, letting receivers make moves in space for a time until Clemson started daring Notre Dame to throw deep, which they simply couldn’t because of the offensive line’s bad day and the receiver’s inability to get open.
Javon McKinley may have well been a ghost, and that was still better than Avery Davis, who wished he was a ghost after dropping a key fourth-down pass early in the game. The tight ends, meanwhile, played a decent game against Clemson, but nothing to write home about.
Michael Mayer had a few catches but was still putting the ball on the ground, and Tommy Tremble was a solid blocker, hauling in a couple of catches to boot.
Skowronek’s four catches for 54 yards led the way in receiving, and Mayer had the most receptions with five. Mayer finished the game with 51 yards receiving.
