The Notre Dame football team is going to have a hard time replacing star linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah next season, as he dominated in 2020.

The Notre Dame football team had one of the best defenses in all of college football for most of the season, possessing incredible talent on all three levels. While the guys up front made noise, especially late in the win against Clemson, and the secondary was loaded with veteran talent, it was the linebacker spot that had the biggest bright spot.

That bright spot was, of course, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, a player who finally got on the field last season, dominated, and came back ready for more in 2020. Well, Owusu-Koramoah did more than just have a good season, becoming one of the best defensive players in the country, and a likely first-round selection in the 2021 NFL Draft.

As we inch closer to the College Football Playoff, JOK has been getting honored on a seemingly daily basis, and he could end up taking home the most prestigious defensive trophy of them all when all is said and done.

Finalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award

For Owusu-Koramoah, there is already a ton of hardware going onto the shelf, as he was named an ESPN All-American, First-Team All-ACC, the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, and the Butkus Award winner, given to the nation’s best linebacker. On Tuesday, he was announced as a finalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award, which is given to the best defensive player in the country, and there is a good chance he comes away with it.

JOK has racked up nearly 60 tackles in 11 games this season, and while his sack numbers are down from a year ago, he is still making plays in the backfield, as 11 of those tackles have been for a loss. He is also a menacing ballhawk linebacker, forcing three fumbles, nabbing an interception, and getting two fumble recoveries, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

Needless to say, Owusu-Koramoah has been a huge part of the Irish success this season, and they will need every ounce of him against the No. 1 team in the land, Alabama, in the Rose Bowl. If the Crimson Tide do not find him on every play, he is going to have a major impact in the game, and hopefully, springboards the Irish to a major upset victory.
