Notre Dame football dominated in 2020, and star quarterback Ian Book had plenty of Heisman Trophy moments. He finished in the top-10 in voting.

The Notre Dame football team will see Ian Book make his last, hopefully, two starts over the next few weeks, as the Irish play for a national championship. One of the four teams selected to the College Football Playoff, Notre Dame has a tough path, as they play the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day.

For Book, it has been a magical season, one that saw him set the school’s all-time win record, and put together a perfect 10-0 regular season. At times, it seemed like he would be a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, as he put together a memorable moment seemingly every time the Irish took the field.

Well, Book is not a finalist for the award, and while that is a bit of a disappointment, where he finished is nothing to be ashamed of.

Book finishes No. 9 in Heisman voting.

On Christmas Day, the finalists for the Heisman Trophy were announced, and Book came in at No. 9 overall in the voting. Book joins the other three quarterbacks in the College Football Playoff at top-10 vote-getters, including Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and Alabama’s Mac Jones, who were named finalists.

In fact, two members of the Tide were finalists, as wideout DeVonta Smith joined his quarterback in the top-4. Florida quarterback Kyle Trask, who nearly beat Alabama in the SEC title game, rounds out the finalists this season.

To be a finalist, you have to be in the top-four of the voting this season, and unlike last year, it is anybody’s guess as to who will take home the award. For Book, he had plenty of Heisman moments during the Irish’s 10-0 start to the season and will have to play much better than he did in the ACC title game if Notre Dame wants to come away with the upset.

Of course, the only trophy that really matters to fans of the Irish is the national championship trophy, and Notre Dame is still very much alive in the race to get it. They first have to get through No. 1 Alabama to get to the final, and that will be no easy task, even with the talented Book at quarterback.
