Alabama is overlooking the Irish

It is unlikely a Nick Saban coached team overlooks anyone, however, it is a foregone conclusion everywhere (except a small patch that represents the Notre Dame campus) that Alabama will slaughter the Irish on New Year’s Day. Alabama is probably more interested in playing Clemson or Ohio State in the next game than they are in playing Notre Dame.

So, it is not out of the question that Alabama comes into the contest with less fire early on. Can Notre Dame parlay that energy into a 14-0 lead? Regardless of when Alabama will show up, but, the Irish can hope that they show up in the second half and not at kickoff.

What though the odds be great or small

The legend of Notre Dame football is built on winning games in this situation. In 1913, an unknown Catholic school from northern Indiana shocked Army with the use of the forward pass. The recipient of those passes, legendary college football coach Knute Rockne, inspired a victory against Army in 1928 with his “win one for the Gipper” speech.

The Irish ended the winning streaks of Oklahoma (47), Texas (30), and Army (25). The mystique of Notre Dame football says that the Irish can win in this situation. The Irish will try to add to the legend of the Golden Domers on Jan. 1 in Dallas, Texas.
