The Notre Dame football team got better at the quarterback position on Monday, as Jack Coan announced he will transfer to the Irish.

This offseason, the Notre Dame football team faced the daunting task of replacing the winningest quarterback in the history of their program. Ian Book left South Bend with a record of 30-3 as the team’s starting quarterback, helping the program to two appearances in the College Football Playoff along the way.

Heading into the 2021 season, the Irish were set to have an open quarterback competition between rising junior Brendon Clark, rising sophomore Drew Pyne and incoming true freshman Tyler Buchner. There is plenty of talent in that group, but none of them have much in-game experience.

Although Notre Dame fans are super excited for Buchner to join the team, I think most would have reservations about entering the 2021 season with a true freshman starting at quarterback. Remember, whoever starts in 2021 will have a ton of pressure on them, as the team has won ten-or-more games in three straight seasons.

Luckily, the position group got some help on Monday.
