Kyren Williams Breaks Out

No one expected Kyren Williams to be the guy at running back for Notre Dame. Yes, everyone expected there to be some kind of running back by committee situation, but Jafar Armstrong and C’Bo Flemister were expected to lead the charge, however, quickly, it became clear that they weren’t the headliner in 2020, though.

Williams had top billing in the running back room and Irish offense as a whole.

Williams, an undersized academic sophomore at running back who was undervalued as a recruit, broke out for Notre Dame, and it was great to watch all season long. Through the first four Notre Dame games, Williams had three games with more than 100 yards and racked up four touchdowns on the ground.

Everyone was already excited about the young running back, and then the Clemson game happened.

He took the second play of the game for a touchdown, a 65-yard touchdown, one that seemingly gave all the momentum to the Irish. Not just that, he proved how well-rounded he is as a back, dominating the Clemson pass rush.

Williams didn’t miss a block all night long, despite the well-documented confusion Clemson brings in its aggressive blitz scheme. The best thing about Kyren Williams breaking out for Notre Dame, he has three years of eligibility left.
