The Notre Dame football program got a gem of a defensive coordinator in Marcus Freeman, and they have hit the ground running in recruiting for 2022.

On Tuesday, three offers went out that were all focused on the secondary of the defense for the Notre Dame football team. This comes on the heels of a big splash for Notre Dame with the hiring of former Cincinnati defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman.

Is this the start of the Freeman era and his reputation for top-notch recruiting? I obviously think he had input, but they are still in the process of finding a safety coach, which hopefully will get resolved soon, so I think cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens was the main advocate of these offers.

Seeing that Mickens and Freeman are very close friends, and have a few similar coaching styles, they definitely know what they want in their secondary, so no doubt this is the start of the Freeman era.

So who are the 2022 new defensive backs offers?

•6’3 185-pound cornerback Davison Igbinosun out of New Jersey

•6’0 160-pound cornerback Ryland Gandy out of Georgia

•6’0 175-pound cornerback Earl Little Jr. out of Florida

Mike Mickens knows what he’s doing when it comes to evaluating talent, and out of the three offers there is one guy that seems like a pure cornerback in my eyes, and that’s Earl Little Jr. His fluid hips and coverage skills are extremely impressive.

Both Igbinosun and Gandy would be candidates for cornerback, but also have a strong possibility of moving to safety early on, which isn’t a bad thing. Igbinosun’s size is very impressive, and Gandy does a great job of reading coverages and attacking.

It will be very intriguing to watch the defensive offers continue going out and what type of players Freeman wants in his scheme at Notre Dame. As I mentioned earlier, they still need to fill in a safeties coach and possibly even a defensive line coach if Mike Elston decides to move on to a different gig.

But if these three offers are any indication of the focus of what Freeman wants for his group, it’s the ball skills and aggressiveness that stands out first as a whole. Let’s the Freeman era begin!
