Notre Dame football has produced some elite wide receivers

Jeff Samardzija

Better known for his MLB career, Jeff Samardzija was Brady Quinn’s favorite target from 2003-06. During that time, he battled Rhema McKnight for most receptions all-time at Notre Dame, Samardzija came out on top, and now sits third all-time behind Michael Floyd and TJ Jones.

He also took the lead in all-time receiving yards, which again has since been pushed to third place in the Notre Dame record books by Floyd and Golden Tate in this case. His 15 touchdowns in 2005 are still tied for most all-time by a Notre Dame wide receiver. His 1,249 yards in 2005 are third all-time for a single season.

Samardzija finished at Notre Dame with179 catches, 2,593 yards, and 27 touchdowns. He was an All-American and Biletnikoff Award finalist in 2006.

Jim Seymour

Jim Seymour played for Ara Parseghian at the same time as Terry Hanratty, where they won the 1966 National Championship and brought the program back to prominence. Like Hanratty, his stats don’t look massive compared to today’s numbers, but they are for the time that he played.

With that being said, he holds the single-game record for receiving yards in a 1966 game against Purdue where he caught the ball for 276 yards.
