Monday afternoon, the Notre Dame football program landed 2022 defensive end Tyson Ford out of Missouri. Tyson was high on the Notre Dame board for a while since they offered back in April of last year, and after defensive coordinator Clark Lea left, Marcus Freeman was going to have to pick up where Lea left off.

He did just that and more.

Ford was a huge priority for Freeman the past couple of weeks and made it known he was his guy. Ford narrowed his list down to a top-4 that was made up of Georgia, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Notre Dame. The biggest threat for a while was the Sooners, and many thought they would be his pick.

Again, Freeman came in and got it done alongside current defensive line coach Mike Elston. The communication was awesome between them and clearly, the success on and off the field for Notre Dame was a home run talking point and what probably ended up being a big reason he decided on the Irish

.At the moment Ford holds 21 offers from the likes of Washington, Texas, Michigan, and more many including his final four.

What will Tyson Ford bring to South Bend?

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound defensive end will absolutely bring power. He’s very strong for his age and makes his competition look small. He also has a great frame with a ton of room to grow. Ford excels in run-stopping and is a brick wall if you come to his side.

He has all the tools to be a weak side or strong side defensive end, and it’ll be fun to watch where he ends up in Blue and Gold. The speed around the edge is there, the power of course is shown on every play, the flexibility is impressive for his size.

He is a complete package and a type of defensive end that Notre Dame needs to land at least once a cycle.

With Tyson Ford’s commitment, the 2022 class now has five pledges, three on the offensive side and now two on defense. I’d expect Freeman and the staff to add multiple guys along the defensive line, seeing that it’s a major need for this Irish roster, so there’s plenty more to come but to start with a player like Tyson Ford, that’s a great spot to be in moving forward.

Defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman is off and running and there’s not much of a better start than this one.
