Ian Book, after what is statistically the second-best career for a quarterback in Notre Dame football history, is off to the NFL. While he was a top-10 Heisman vote-getter this season and is the winningest coach in Notre Dame history, Book is not expected to be a high draft pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and that might just be the best possible situation for him.

Book will still be drafted, and he’ll still be in the NFL next season, but without the immediate pressure to be a starter.

Book actually may never feel the pressure as a starter, as his size and arm strength don’t match the traditional aesthetic that NFL scouts and GMs covet, and his stats don’t make up for that as they did for Kyler Murray. Any playing time Book gets will likely be as an NFL backup, not that there’s anything wrong with that.

He even could end up getting some playing time, like DeShone Kizer has, and earn a shot to be a starter long term.

As far as the NFL goes, there’s always a need for a quarterback. This year in particular it seems like there are between eleven and nineteen teams who have different levels of quarterback questions, from is it time to move on from Carson Wentz, to how do you replace Drew Brees, to what’s the first step in fixing the Jaguars?

Some teams may just need to get competition for the starting job in camp or may need their starter of the future. Others may just want to find a solid backup. Whatever the case, there are plenty of places where Ian Book may end up. Here are a few of those places:
