The Notre Dame football team won ten games during the 2020 college football season, proving once again to be one of the top programs in the country. With their second trip to the College Football Playoff in three years, the Irish definitely got it done on the field, running through the regular season with a perfect record.

While the team would go on to lose in both the ACC Championship Game and the semis of the College Football Playoff, it did not diminish what this group was able to accomplish. Playing in a tough COVID season, and joining a conference, Notre Dame football pushed on, sending multiple players to the All-America teams.

With all of the accolades on the field, it would be easy to glaze over the accomplishments this team had off of it, and they were recognized for their work in the classroom on Monday. The ACC released their All-Academic team, and the Irish were well represented.

Seven members of the Notre Dame football team honored by ACC

Led by starting quarterback Ian Book, the Notre Dame football team saw seven of their players named to the ACC’s All-Academic team. Book became the program’s all-time winningest quarterback this season, leading by example on the field, and off of it.

Joining Book on the offensive side of the ball as All-Academic players were Robert Hainsey, Ben Skowronek, Tommy Kraemer, Javon McKinley, and true freshman Michael Mayer. Mayer capped off a wonderful true freshman season by earning this honor and will be counted on to play an even bigger role with so many starters graduating or declaring for the NFL Draft.

The only defensive player to earn this honor was linebacker Drew White, who was a monster in the middle of the Irish defense this season. White was not given any All-Conference accolades, but that does not diminish what he meant to this team on that side of the ball, and his services will certainly be missed next season.

Congratulations to all the honorees!
