There is so much to like about new Notre Dame football defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman, and his charm was on full display on Wednesday. As assistant coaches were made available to the media during National Signing Day, Freeman stole the show, and it was easy to see why he is one of the elite assistant coaches in college football.

Freeman has not been on the job long, as he was signed after the Notre Dame football team lost to Alabama in the College Football Playoff, but he has already made his mark. Recruits are lined up to speak with him, and based on what he did in Cincinnati, there is no reason to believe that some special recruiting classes are on their way.

In fact, with Freeman already hitting the ground running, a class better than No. 9 overall should be coming in 2022.

Notre Dame football lure not lost on Marcus Freeman

On Wednesday, Freeman made it known that it is another world when recruiting for Notre Dame football, as there is no limit to the quality of player you can go after.

"“You can get any player you want in the country on the phone,” Freeman said."

Unlike recruiting at an AAC school, though he did a tremendous job during his time at Cincinnati, the lure of playing for Notre Dame is just different.

Freeman is widely considered one of the top defensive coordinators in college football, and will certainly be running his own program, maybe even Notre Dame football, in the future. For now, the Irish are lucky to have him, not only on the sidelines, but also on the recruiting trail, and that is going to set them up for the long haul.

The 2021 Notre Dame football recruiting class has a lot of talent in it, including at cornerback, wide receiver, offensive line, and quarterback. Coming off two College Football Playoff appearances in three years, the Irish are trying to bridge the gap between them and the likes of Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State, and Freeman can certainly help them do just that.
