Notre Dame football depth chart: Offensive Guard

Offensive line coach Jeff Quinn must also replace two guards this season as well, after Aaron Banks and Tommy Kraemer departed for the NFL. Banks and Kraemer brought lots of experience to the table, and losing this pair of starters hurts tremendously.

Dillan Gibbons played meaningful minutes when he slid over during a reshuffle during the Florida State game, playing well enough to deserve the nod in the initial depth chart at left guard. The right guard spot features many candidates including freshman Blake Fisher and Rocco Spindler, junior Quinn Carroll, and senior John Dirksen.

  • LG: 1. Dillan Gibbons (RS Sr.), 2. Blake Fisher (Fr.), 3. Hunter Spears (RS So.)
  • RG: 1. Quinn Carroll (RS So.), 2. Rocco Spindler (Fr.), 3. John Dirksen (RS Jr.)

Quinn Carroll fits the bill at right guard. As a former tackle prospect, he possesses great size for a guard. Carroll ranked as the 118th prospect in the 2019 class, though Fisher and Spindler might also push into the starting line up.

Zeke Correll, a former top-100 prospect, moved into the starting position after Jarrett Patterson suffered a season-ending foot injury in 2020. After a few minor errors, Correll began to take off in the college football playoff semifinals against Alabama.

The Irish recruited Chicago area native Pat Coogan to play a versatile swing player role along the offensive line. Coogan likely finds himself in the backup position behind Correll. In reality, Josh Lugg probably moves over to center if anything happens to Correll, as Lugg started two games at center against Syracuse and Clemson.
