The Notre Dame football team saw Kyren Williams burst onto the scene as a redshirt freshman in 2020, dominating defenses, while rushing for over 1,000 yards for the Irish. It was a season the team definitely needed, this after losing Tony Jones Jr. to the NFL, but he was not the only young running back who made his presence felt.

As a true freshman, Chris Tyree showed some of the big-play ability that makes him an exciting player to watch this upcoming season, as the two star backs lead a depth chart that got a lot better during this recruiting cycle. Notre Dame football added both Audric Estime and Logan Diggs in their 2021 recruiting class, two players who have different running styles, but who both are four-star recruits.

Both players are expected to get playing time as a freshman this fall, giving the Irish four sophomore or freshman to lean on toting the rock.

Notre Dame football adds Jadarian Price

On Sunday, it was announced that the Irish would also be welcoming in Jadarian Price during the 2022 recruiting cycle, a huge get for the program. One of the top running backs in the state of Texas, a hot-bed for elite prospects, Price adds another dimension to this position group, setting the program up for success at running back for at least the next five seasons.

Price is a tough runner, can catch the ball out of the backfield, and played against some elite talent in college. After a season that saw Williams rack up 1,000 yards on the ground and over 300 yards through the air, it is clear that Tommy Rees knows how to get the backs more involved in more than just the run game.

It remains to be seen what the program plans to do in terms of the quarterback position this season, but they appear set for the long haul by bringing in Tyler Buchner this offseason. Whoever is under center for the next five seasons in South Bend is going to have elite talent behind them, as Notre Dame football continues to add dynamic playmakers to the running back room.
