There are going to be a lot of changes for this Notre Dame football team heading into next season, as they have to replace elite talent on both sides of the ball. Four-fifths of their dominant starting offensive line is gone, as are multiple playmakers on defense, making for what should be an interesting offseason.

Staying with the offensive side of the ball, the Irish will have the daunting task of replacing Ian Book, a player who won more games than any other quarterback in Notre Dame football history. Book was a constant under center on two teams that went to the College Football Playoff, so matching that level of success is going to be difficult.

As we shift the calendar to March and get ready for spring practices to get started, all eyes will be on the quarterback position. Who takes over for Book is yet to be seen, but there are options, including a short-term option, and a long-term solution.

For head coach Brian Kelly and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, getting this right is crucial to the success of this Irish program in 2021, and beyond.
