Notre Dame Basketball: Irish need to be perfect from here on out
By Brad Weiss
The Notre Dame Basketball team suffered a tough loss the last time out, their second consecutive defeat after a strong start to the new year. Heading into their matchup against Louisville, the hope was the Irish could beat a young Cardinals team, improve their standing in the ACC, and start a strong push to the ACC Tournament.
Unfortunately, the Irish were outplayed on both ends of the court by Louisville, losing to a team that had barely played this month, and are led by mostly freshmen. It was a crushing defeat, this after letting a big lead slip away against Syracuse, and now they have an uphill climb as they get ready for the conference tournament.
Sitting at 6-9 in the conference, the Irish will need a strong finish to the regular season, a task that is easier said than done.
Notre Dame Basketball has to be perfect from here on out
To close out their season, the Notre Dame Basketball team will take on three more ACC teams, including a road game at Boston College the next time out. From there, the Irish close their regular season with two home games, one against NC State, who is right above them in the standings in the ACC, before finishing against No. 11 Florida State.
It would be huge for the confidence of this team heading into the ACC Tournament if they not only close with three straight wins but beat a Seminoles team that is 10-2 in conference play right before the ACC tourney kicks off. The Irish have yet to play consistent basketball all season long, but they played solid for a good month and need another run like that coming up.
Prentiss Hubb needs to continue to distribute the ball, getting Nate Laszewski more involved on the offensive end, and the team has to be much better defensively. They were rolling a few weeks back, and have hit a stumbling block, but finishing out the year with a three-game win streak heading into the conference tournament could be just what they need to improve their standing in the ACC, as they try to make a run to the NCAA Tournament this March.
