The Notre Dame football program is already stockpiling talent at the running back position, with young stars already with experience in Kyren Williams and Chris Tyree. As freshman this past season, Williams and Tyree formed an incredible one-two punch, with Williams rushing for over 1,000 yards, and Tyree showing flashes of brilliance.

As the Irish enter the 2021 college football season, there are question marks up and down the roster, as they have to replace a ton of starters from last season. Fortunately, running back is not one of them, as they will supplement Williams and Tyree with a couple of four-star recruits from this year’s class.

Audric Estime and Logan Diggs are two running backs who do different things extremely well, giving this Notre Dame football program so much depth and talent at the running back position in 2021. In 2022, more help is on the way, including possibly one player who made the Irish a finalist for his services this weekend.

Gi’Bran Payne names Notre Dame football a top-5 finalist

With Estime and Diggs already committed to the Irish and a part of the 2021 class, Notre Dame football got another boost at running back this past week in Florida star Jadarian Price. This is a kid who can do so many wonderful things with a football in his hands, and he may not be alone in terms of the talent this program brings in at this position group in 2022.

On Saturday, LaSalle (OH) High School standout Gi’Bran Payne knocked his list of seven down to five, and the Notre Dame football logo was right there. That is right, the Irish could pick up another star running back in the 2022 recruiting class, a testament to what Brian Kelly and his staff are building in South Bend.

Payne was rated the No. 11 running back in the country by 247Sports, and despite being hampered by injuries last season, he goes into the 2021 season as a top-10 player in the state of Ohio. That is a state that is a hotbed for Division 1 talent, and if the Irish can land Payne, the future of this program at running back is set until at least 2025.
