Notre Dame Football: 20 biggest wins of the Brian Kelly era

4. Notre Dame 24, Michigan 17 (2018)

To start the 2018 season, Notre Dame had to deal with Michigan, and most people fully expected the Irish to struggle with the Wolverines. After all, Brandon Wimbush had underperformed to that point of his career, while Michigan brought in quarterback Shea Patterson to fix the woes they’d had a quarterback.

Meanwhile, all eyes were on the game, as South Bend played host to College Gameday.

Notre Dame would jump on Michigan early, with Jafar Armstrong and Chris Finke finding the endzone in the first quarter for Notre Dame. Michigan started to figure things out in the second quarter, but that didn’t mean Notre Dame wasn’t still able to score, as Armstrong added another touchdown in between Michigan scoring drives.

It would be 21-10 at the half. For the second half, each defense was able to adjust fairly well and Yoon added another field goal in the third quarter. It wouldn’t be until the end of the fourth quarter before Michigan made it a one-score game again. In the end, Notre Dame showed they could beat almost anyone in 2018, and used Michigan to kick off an unbeaten regular season.
