Notre Dame Basketball: MBB get much-needed win before ACC Tournament

On Senior Night, the Notre Dame Basketball program got a huge win, as they welcomed the No. 11 ranked Florida State Seminoles to Purcell Pavilion. Riding a four-game losing streak, the Irish were big underdogs in this one, their last game before the start of the ACC Tournament.

Florida State has been a top team in not only the ACC but the country all season long, posting a 15-4 record heading into this matchup and losing one game since January 30. In this game, the Irish finally put 40 minutes of consistent basketball together, showing the kind of team they could be if they avoided the mistakes that have plagued them all season long.

Entering the ACC Tournament, maybe they can ride this momentum to a stunning run.

Notre Dame Basketball knocks off No. 11 Florida State

On Saturday, the Irish got out to a huge halftime lead against the Seminoles, taking control of the game early, getting out to a 19-5 lead through the first six minutes of the first half. That lead would balloon to 47-31 as the two teams went to the locker room for halftime, and as the No. 11 team in the country, you knew the Seminoles were not going away.

Florida State actually outscored the Irish 42-36 in the second half, but the halftime deficit proved to be too much to overcome. An Anthony Polite three-pointer actually pulled Florida State within with 2:34 left in the game, but the Irish used a 9-3 run to close out the Seminoles, and their regular season.

Prentiss Hubb led five Notre Dame Basketball players in double-figures with 22 points, and seniors Nikola Djogo and Juwan Durham combined for 20 points. Durham led the Irish with nine rebounds.

The win was also huge for head coach Mike Brey, who has come under fire in recent weeks and could be playing for his job this March. This Irish team has talent up and down the roster, and should be a problem for anyone who draws them in the first round of the ACC Tournament, but can they repeat this effort.
