Notre Dame Football: Top-25 players of the Brian Kelly era

15. Chase Claypool, WR, 2016-19

  • 150 catches, 2,159 receiving yards, 19 TDs

Chase Claypool was a receiver who developed into one of the best wide receivers in the country over his time at Notre Dame. By his senior season, in 2019, he was able to put up one of the all-time great seasons for a wide receiver in Notre Dame history.

His thirteen touchdowns in 2019 were sixth for a single season in Notre Dame history, with his four touchdowns against Navy being tied for first in a single game.

In his career, Claypool’s 150 receptions and 19 touchdowns are both seventh all-time in Notre Dame history. Claypool would also be the Camping World MVP for Notre Dame’s win over Iowa State in 2019.

If there is a knock on Claypool, it would be that he only had one great season, but it was an insanely great season. Now a Pittsburgh Steeler, Claypool built on his 2019 success and had an excellent rookie season in 2020, becoming one of the best rookie wide receivers in the NFL this past season, helping the Steelers to the playoffs.
