Notre Dame Football: Top-25 players of the Brian Kelly era

18. Sheldon Day, DT, 2012-15

  • 141 tackles, 32 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, 8 pass breakups, 2 fumble recoveries, 2 forced fumbles

Sheldon Day came to Notre Dame in 2012, playing every game of the unbeaten 2012 season despite being a true freshman. That was a testament to his great athletic ability and strength as a defensive lineman.

Day would statistically improve with each season at Notre Dame, culminating in being named a two-time captain for the Irish. Although he could have been draft selection in the 2015 NFL Draft, Day decided to return to South Bend for his senior season, and fans of the Irish are certainly happy that he did.

That season, Day was named an All-American on multiple lists, including the FWAA and USA Today All-American teams. He was also a finalist for several awards and was the two-time Moose Krause Defensive Lineman of the Year.

After his time at Notre Dame, Day would go on to be a fourth-round draft pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars and has spent five seasons in the NFL playing for the Jaguars, San Francisco 49ers, Indianapolis Colts, and Cleveland Browns.
