Irish fans, it is safe to say at this point that Marcus Freeman has been an outstanding addition to the Notre Dame football program on the recruiting front. Since the Ohio native set foot in South Bend, he has wasted no time in engaging with young players across the country, and that was proven with his steal of an elite prospect in Tyson Ford.

The junior edge player from John Burroughs in St. Louis was an Irish lean for quite some in 2020. But, as the winter months approached, he and his family’s connection with Lincoln Riley was becoming quite strong. For weeks, recruiting experts from both 247 Sports and Rivals were forecasting the long athlete to find a home in Norman.

Fortunately for the Irish, Brian Kelly once again proved he is among the best head coaches when it comes to hiring personnel and got Freeman to sign on the dotted line. There is no debate, without the hire of Marcus Freeman, Tyson Ford would be a Sooner.

Not only did the energetic defensive coordinator bring in Ford, but he also worked on another edge player out of Virginia who was a Penn State favored recruit; that recruit being Aiden Gobaira, of course. As of now, Notre Dame has a total of seven commits in the 2022 class, and they are as follows: WDE Tyson Ford out of St. Louis, MO, OT Joey Tanona out of Zionsville, IN, OT Ty Chan out of Groton, MA, RB Jadarian Price out of Denison, TX, S/LB Nolan Ziegler out of Grand Rapids, MI, TE Jack Nickel out of Alpharetta, GA, and WDE Aiden Gobaira out of Chantilly, VA.

According to both Rivals and 247 Sports rankings, all of these guys, except Gobaira, are four-star recruits. To say that this is an impressive and promising start is quite an understatement.

With that being said, Irish fans, myself included, are always eager to know what is next. Though there are numerous high school players who have a high interest in the Fighting Irish, let’s take a look at 5 recruits Notre Dame would love to have join this class.
