Since taking over as head coach of the Notre Dame football program, Brian Kelly has coached his fair share of elite players. Recently, we put together a list of the top-25 players to play for the Irish within this Era, and Quenton Nelson was rated the No. 3 player on that list.

During his time at Notre Dame, Nelson was as dominant as they come from his offensive guard position, and in 2017, was named a unanimous All-American. He was an anchor along an offensive line that paved the way for Josh Adams, who rushed for over 1,400 yards that season, as the Irish moved the ball at will on the ground.

He rocketed up draft boards thanks to his incredible strength and athletic ability and landed with the Indianapolis Colts as the No. 6 overall selection.

Notre Dame Football star ranked No. 25 overall

In a recent post over at PFF, Michael Renner listed the top-50 all-time draft prospects they have scouted in the last six years. Nelson was the only Notre Dame football player listed within the top-50, with star offensive guard coming in at No. 25 overall.

PFF wrote that Nelson was one of the ‘cleaner’ offensive lineman prospects they have scouted since 2015, and you cannot get much better than his 92.2 grade from the 2017 campaign. A mauler in every sense of the word, Nelson was the second-rated offensive lineman on this, finishing behind only Oregon star Penei Sewell.

Notre Dame Football is widely regarded as “Offensive Line U,” and Nelson joined teammates Mike McGlinchey as top-10 draft picks in the 2018 NFL Draft. He has gone on to be one of the better offensive linemen in the NFL since being drafted by Indianapolis, and if he continues on his career trajectory, there is reason to believe he could end up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame one day.
