The Notre Dame Basketball program got a big win on the Men’s side on Tuesday, advancing to the next round of the ACC Tournament.

The Notre Dame Basketball team wanted to get out to a fast start against Wake Forest, a team that is a notoriously slow starter. If the Irish could get off to a strong start against the Demon Deacons, they could put them away early, sending them to their eighth straight loss.

Instead, it was the Notre Dame Basketball team that got off to the slow start.

Before you could blink, the Demon Deacons had gotten off to a 21-7 start to the first-round game, dominating on both sides of the floor. In a win-or-go-home matchup, a game the Irish were supposed to cruise in, it was Wake Forest who got it going early, thanks to some strong play from leading scorer Daivien Williamson.

However, the Irish rebounded against Wake, punching their ticket to Wednesday’s matchup against North Carolina thanks to some incredible late-game heroics and a stunning comeback.

Notre Dame Basketball got strong play up and down the lineup

With the Irish losing ground to Wake late in the first half, it was transfer Cormac Ryan who willed his team back, making a dunk on a sweet dish from Prentiss Hubb, before banging a three after a Juwan Durham steal. That pulled the Irish within seven heading into the break and would need an absolutely stunning comeback to seal the victory.

Down by as many as 15 in the second half, the Irish came roaring back thanks to a collective effort from the likes of Prentiss Hubb, Trey Wertz, and Durham to name a few. It would be a Wertz three-pointer at the buzzer from way downtown that gave the Irish the victory, capping an incredible comeback that kept their season alive.

It was one of the more improbable victories of the season for Notre Dame Basketball, who looked dead in the water at plenty of times in the game but kept fighting back. That is a sign that this team is not ready to fade away just yet.

With the win, the Irish now will get very little rest before hitting the court again, which could actually play to their advantage. They have a tall task ahead of them Wednesday night in the Tar Heels, who are coming off an 18-point win against Duke their last time out. Tipoff is scheduled for 9 pm ET.
