The Notre Dame Basketball team picked up a shocking victory on Tuesday night, and it could be just what they need to make a run in the 2020-21 ACC Tournament.

When you beat a team the way the Notre Dame Basketball team beat Wake Forest on Tuesday night, it tends to stick to both squads. For Wake, they will look back and think about the ‘what-ifs’ from Tuesday night, like letting the Irish go on a 17-2 run to close out the game.

Then there is the Notre Dame Basketball team, who were seemingly left for dead so many times throughout the matchup, only to keep clawing back. As Trey Wertz‘s deep three-ball tickled the twine with no time left on the clock, the Irish not only punched their ticket to the second round but could have propelled themselves to another shocker in 24 hours.

Wins like this do not come around too often, and for a program that has had an up-and-down season, it could not have come at a better time. A better team awaits them on Wednesday night, but nobody should want to face this Notre Dame Basketball team right now.

Notre Dame Basketball could shock UNC Wednesday

That team is of course the University of North Carolina, a Tar Heels team that the Irish went toe-to-toe with on January 2 of this year, and only lost by one point. In that game, the Irish showed they have the talent to hang with Roy Williams’ club, and it took a Leaky Black jump shot with under ten seconds left to seal the win for the Tar Heels.

In that game, the Irish got a monster effort from Nate Laszewski, a player who has burst onto the scene this season. The Notre Dame Basketball team will need every bit of Big Nate on Wednesday night, and he should certainly be up for the challenge, after being one of the more improved players in the country this season.

Remember, the Irish did not have Wertz during that contest against North Carolina, so they will have to gameplan against a player they have yet to see. Sure, North Carolina is talented, but so is this Irish team when they are playing the way they did to close out this game, and as they did against No. 11 Florida State a few days back.

This is going to be an exciting matchup on Wednesday night, as the Irish proved to the world that they are never totally out of it. They got contributions up and down this roster, which will be needed against the Tar Heels, but after seeing this team play the last two games, they are certainly peaking at the right time.
