The Notre Dame Basketball program lost in the second round of the Men’s ACC Basketball Tournament, as they were dominated on the glass.

Coming off a buzzer-beater win against Wake Forest in the first round of the 2020-21 ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament, the Notre Dame Basketball team went into their matchup with the University of North Carolina Tar Heels with some confidence. Unfortunately, despite a lot of confidence, they did not have the height to hang with the Heels, and it was apparent very early on.

North Carolina was pretty much getting offensive rebounds at will in the first half against the Irish, getting out to a commanding lead, and really never feeling threatened by Prentiss Hubb and company. Even with Garrison Brooks out for North Carolina, the bigs dominated Notre Dame Basketball all game long, punching their ticket to the quarterfinals.

Notre Dame Basketball dominated on the boards

North Carolina rebounded at a staggering rate on Wednesday night, finishing the first half with 18 offensive rebounds, and 30 overall. The best rebounding team in the country, the Tar Heels lived up to that billing, making even the big men on this Notre Dame Basketball team look small.

Notre Dame Basketball went into the half down by 14 points, but unlike the night before, there would be no magical run against the Tar Heels. The Irish were dominated on the boards all game long, and with the loss, they will now turn their attention to the 2021-22 college basketball season.

In a frustrating season, that was a really a roller coaster for Mike Brey and his squad, the Irish at least gave us some excitement to close out the regular season, and in the first round of the ACC Tournament. This is a junior-laden team that will mostly be back next season, so the hope is that with all the talent coming in, they can make a serious run in a more normal ACC season.
