Coan does not make mistakes

To have success at any level playing the quarterback position, you have to minimize your mistakes, and Coan is outstanding at doing just that. In fact, during his 2019 college season for Wisconsin, Coan did not have a single game where he had more than one interception and threw only five across the who season.

Playing against the kind of schools Notre Dame Football does every season, minimizing the mistakes is crucial, and we saw how Book could get in trouble when he tried to do too much under center. In Coan, they are getting a real game-manager, and that is not a knock on him at all, as he seems to do everything right once he gets comfortable in an offense.

Based on the talent around him, the tape I saw when he played at Wisconsin, and just seeing how he presents himself on the sidelines, Coan is a leader who is going to in a bunch of games for the Irish this fall. Sure, he has not played since 2019, but he comes to South Bend with experience as a starting quarterback in a major conference, and when replacing a legend, it is always good to have as solid an option as possible.
