Notre Dame Football: Liam Eichenberg to benefit from OT movement
By Brad Weiss
With all of the offensive line movement in the NFL’s first few days of free agency, Notre Dame star Liam Eichenberg could benefit in a big way.
Heading into the 2021 college football season, the Notre Dame Football program will have a lot of big-name players to replace. Upfront along the offensive line, they will need to figure out how to overcome the loss of eighty percent of their starters from a year ago, a group that includes anchor Liam Eichenberg.
During his time in South Bend, Eichenberg became another in a long list of dominant offensive tackles to play for the school. He was key in the Irish going to two of the last three College Football Playoffs, and he will now make the jump to the pro ranks, where he is a highly-regarded prospect.
Some feel Eichenberg could end up in the first round, and this round of free agency in the NFL is showing a lot of teams will need a cheap, young option at offensive tackle.
Notre Dame Football star Liam Eichenberg will benefit from movement
The NFL is in a strange place this year, as the salary cap is going to be lower than most years, and most players are signing smaller, short-term deals. We have even seen some teams, like the Las Vegas Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs, completely strip down their offensive lines, clearing the way for guys like Eichenberg to go early in the draft, and start right away.
As we inch closer to the end of April, and the draft’s first two days, we are going to see a lot of movement when it comes to NFL rosters. Eichenberg stands to benefit from this, as teams look to upgrade and cut costs elsewhere, leaving important spots like offensive tackle, up for grabs to early-round picks.
